Holster Review: Cry Havoc Gear (P320C)

The holster pie is filled ad nauseum with companies who claim to be the best, use only the best kydex, or NEVAH BEN DUN BEFOE designs. And many are correct. Even more are dirty liars that have as much originality as most writers do, Present company included. Well, today, since I have a brand new P320C, I went with a kydex jocky who has a bomb-proof, simple design, utilizing the thicker kydex: Cry Havoc Gear.

Gear Review: Typhon Edition Lifeproof case by Mobile Innovations

Protection is important. If its going to go weird, dark, maybe even wet places, you need to have all over protection to avoid any... Accidents. Accidents are expensive, and they have can have terrible consequences. And, to be clear, I am talking about phones. Phones and cases!

If you have a modern smart phone, you know that they aren't the most rugged items that you put at risk everyday. They can be dropped, spilled on, sat on, thrown, smashed, bumped, and generally suffer the abuse some people pay good money for, so comprehensive protection is a must! Lifeproof has already demonstrated the superb quality demanded of something named life-proof, so that's not what is to be reviewed, per se. Its what goes on to the cases: flair, basically. But flair that is of the high quality of the case itself!

In my dirty little hands I hold a 5s Case with custom cut vinyl coverings by Mobile Innovations (formerly iRepair-Rescue) which feature the awesomely sick patterns of the Kryptek line of camos: Typhon (a dark melding of greys and black within hexagonal patterns that are stretched and warped to disguise silhouette) and Highlander (same as Typhon, but in browns and tans), and a Multicam that is very cool. The vinyl is thick, and is cut and applied to the contours of the case, taking into account the speaker areas for phone and voice function, the camera forward area, the home button (works with 5s finger scan tech), and the rear are for the camera and flash cell's raised area. Again, the vinyl is thick, with a clear protective coating over the pattern itself.

My choice was the Typhon pattern, as it's the most badass. I have had the cover for about a 6 month period, I work in the Automotive repair industry and subject my phone to heinous things. I have spilled refrigerant oil on it, dropped it repeatedly, spilled other fluids on every surface, handled it with greasy hands, and I have a terrible habit of checking my business Instagram (@hhtweaponry, if you're wondering....) so I pull my phone out a lot. Like someone who is addicted a lot. Its a problem for another day! that means the coverings are subjected to abrasion and friction almost constantly. It's a perfect test!

Overall, there is no change in the appearance of the vinyls, but in a couple of the higher contact areas I have managed to fray some of the edging away, and  a couple spots have no clear part left on there. The vinyl itself has yet to show any signs of coming up ANYWHERE, which is crazy when you think about all those crappy stickers that never get touched but just call it quits in less than a day. The adhesive is awesome, the thickness (again. Ladies) plays greatly in its favor, with zero fade or obscuring/destroying of the patterns or colors. The quality is extremely high, and stands on its own. Pics will be at the end of the page, so you can see what I am talking about.

Another piece that was featured from MI is their Bullet Button addition. And no, it doesn't drop the mag... I think. Its the primer'd section of a once-fired piece of 223 brass, adhered to the home button protective layer, to enhance tactile employment. This does mean that you lose the fingerprint scan function, but waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh! some people can get along fine. The button I have on mine is of the Colt persuasion, and is all bright and shiny! Its still got the primer in the end, but it HAS been fired, so no worries that it'll just pop off. Pansy. I tend to pic at mine, and it hasn't come off yet, but has seemed to loosen. That is what binding agents do under constant stress and picking, so that's pretty normal, and I have no issues with it.

Overall, the case is amazing, and the additions that Mobile Innovatiosn has... added... are as up to spec as the Lifeproof they go onto. You can find these awesome cases, with everything applied!, at www.MI-gear.com, along with morale patches, shirts, battery packs for mobile devices, and other cool offerings!

The cases retail for $96 with shipping, but it's waaaay cheaper than buying a new phone and having to reset everything. Ask me how I know.

Pics of the case at this point in time of writing are below:
