Holster Review: Cry Havoc Gear (P320C)

The holster pie is filled ad nauseum with companies who claim to be the best, use only the best kydex, or NEVAH BEN DUN BEFOE designs. And many are correct. Even more are dirty liars that have as much originality as most writers do, Present company included. Well, today, since I have a brand new P320C, I went with a kydex jocky who has a bomb-proof, simple design, utilizing the thicker kydex: Cry Havoc Gear.

Model of Firearm: P320, Compact Medium Frame, FDE

Model of Holster: CHG Banshee IWB, Safety Orange, 1.75" clip

Price as Tested: $47 before shipping

Fit: The holster, as hoped, fits extremely tight right out of the box. Tight enough, without touching the adjustment screw either way, that once inside the holster, the gun was having to be jerked out with so much force one could almost atomic wedgy the user. However, also as expected, the holster wore in after a few practice draws throughout the day. The inside will also shed a few orange strips, very small pieces, as it fits to the coated metal of the gun and it drags across the inside with practice. After a couple of weeks, the holster fits smoothly, holds tight, and draws very smoothly.

The holster has worn to where I have very few shavings on the slide at all, and I still have not touched the adjustment screw either way.

Appearance: Being a huge fan of orange, I purchased the holster in Safety Orange, a traditionally bright shade of orange that also matches my HellBent Holster Combat Wallet and Cry Havoc Gear business card holder.

It is still very orange, even after daily carry in an automotive repair shop and rubbing on skin that is slightly acidic. Any dirt comes off with a swipe of a finger or towel. slight wear has been noted on the trigger guard are, where the holster rides at the top of my SOE belt. very small area, does not effect overall appearance to any noticeable degree, and should not due to EDC style. The holster is also sized for the full size frame, but due to the modular nature of the P320/P250 frames, it will accept any size in the series, so expect this to feel the same no matter what caliber or frame size you have or expect to own in the future. (P250 and P320 share the same frames in the same calibers, as per Sig literature)

The holster comes with all black clips and screws, with an aluminum spacer by the retention area.

Function: As stated above, the holster came in tight as a new drum, with the pistol sliding in when a fair amount of force was applied. This is pretty standard with really thick, well constructed kydex holsters. The tight, flush fit holds the pistol in like a vice, and, with the first few draws at least, needed a good pull to get the pistol out. This can be adjusted on the holster, by using a screw driver on the tightness adjustment screw just in front of the trigger guard. It is a phillips head, and uses a rubber ring to keep pressure between sides of the holster. This retention can be adjusted outward or inward as desired, for differing levels of hold on the pistol. The initial over-positive retention has subsided without adjustment, and is perfect for my daily carry. It clicks when the pistol goes in, and will not come out with even aggressive shaking.

It rides comfortably on my hip, almost dead on 3 o'clock, and the full sweat guard doesn't poke or cut into my extra me at all. The FOMI clip is extremely durable, perfectly clipping over my 1.75" SOE EDC belt and never once coming unclipped. This is awesome, as my desk chair has rubberized foam arm padding that likes to grab holster clips and move them or break them if they are really thin. It is engraved with a tasteful logo.

Final Thoughts: In a sea of companies, Cry Havoc Gear has given a very sturdy, dead simple design that works and is comfortable for edc of your firearm. And while they don't have the biggest selection of firearms, they cover the most common calibers of common firearms, and a few uncommon selections like the P290 from Sig Sauer. If you are looking for a budget friendly holster that can withstand daily life and beyond, Try the Banshee from Cry Havoc Gear.
